The Department of Computer Science Master’s Program, which was opened within Dokuz Eylül University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, started its educational activities by accepting students in the Fall semester of the 2014-2015 academic year. In the program, which gave its first master’s graduates in 2017 (2 graduate students), our currently enrolled students continue their course and thesis studies.
For admission to the Master’s program in the Department of Computer Science, it is required to have a Bachelor’s Degree diploma from the departments specified by the institute in the announcement of master’s applications for the relevant period, to have at least 55 points in the relevant field (Numerical score) from the Graduate Entrance Examination (ALES) held nationwide and at least 65 points from the entrance exam of the Institute. In addition, as a foreign language requirement, it is required to have at least 60 points from YDS, ÜDS and KPDS English language exams, equivalent points from exams approved by the institute such as TOEFL etc. or at least 65 points from DEU School of Foreign Languages Level Examination.
The program is designed as a two-year (4 semesters) program with a credit load of 30 ECTS credits per semester and includes the compulsory Master’s Thesis and Master’s Seminar courses with a total of 63 ECTS credits, a compulsory Area of Specialization course with 3 ECTS credits, a compulsory Mathematics course to be taken with the approval of the student’s advisor, and a minimum of 6 graduate elective courses. The minimum number of university credits to be taken is 21 and the minimum number of courses is 7. 30% of the 21 credits (at least 7 credits) must be taken from courses offered in English. The current elective course pool of the master’s program includes 33 different course options (17 for the Fall semester and 16 for the Spring semester), 30 from Computer Science, 2 from Statistics and 1 from Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
The scope of the program focuses on computer mathematics, large-scale data analysis and intelligent decision systems. The main objective of the program is to train experts who can conduct scientific research and development under the headings of flexible computing, data mining, artificial intelligence, fuzzy logic, management support systems, bioinformatics, etc. and use them in practice.
In line with this purpose, software applications such as different statistical and engineering analysis tools, data mining, mathematical modeling and optimization, database management systems and software development environments installed on Windows and Linux operating systems in 3 computer laboratories, each with a capacity of 40 students, are available to all our students for research and teaching purposes. Graduates of this master’s program will be able to generate new knowledge by analyzing and evaluating complex and large volumes of data.
The PhD Program in Computer Science started 100% English education in the 2019-2020 academic year within the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences of the University.
